Kindergarten/TK Program | Discovery Child Development Center
Discovery Child Development Center has a transitional-k/kindergarten class for children turning 5 by November 30. This program is ideal for students who would benefit an additional year of pre-k curriculum before entering kindergarten or who would benefit from a more personalized kindergarten experience.
Program Details
Children in our TK/Kindergarten class work independently at learning centers for math, writing, computer, discovery, and art. Students participate in small-group reading, language arts, writing, math, and early robotics lessons tailored to each child's skill level. During whole group time, children engage in storytelling, music, movement and Spanish lessons. Additionally, students collaborate with peers and teachers in project-based activities throughout the school year. Through this comprehensive approach, our TK/Kindergarten students develop essential literacy, oral language, writing, mathematical, and social skills while becoming engaged, motivated learners who ask questions and seek answers. Our students are fully prepared for elementary school success by year's end.
Class Options
Our TK/Kindergarten program meets Monday through Friday (5 days required). Families can choose half-day (8:55am-12:15pm) or school day (8:55am-2:55pm) options, with aftercare available until 5:00pm. This program maintains a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio (20 students, 2 teachers).
Enrollment Requirements
Age Requirement: Children must be 5 years old by November 30th to enroll in our Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten program. December birthday are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Potty Training: All TK/Kindergarten students must be fully potty trained and independent in the bathroom.
Family Tour: Required for all families to visit our classroom, meet our staff, and see our project-based curriculum in action.
Attendance: Students must attend 5 days per week (Monday-Friday). Both half-day and school-day students follow this requirement.
Readiness Assessment: We evaluate each child's readiness for our TK/Kindergarten curriculum to ensure the best fit for their developmental needs.
