Transitional K/Kindergarten Class- Discovery Child Development Center
Discovery Child Development Center has a transitional-k/kindergarten class for students turning 5 by November 30. It is a great class for students who may want an additional year of pre-k curriculum before entering kindergarten or who would benefit from a more personalized kindergarten experience.
Children in our transitional kindergarten/ kindergarten class work independently at centers such as math, writing, computer, discovery, and art. Students also participate in small-group reading, language arts, writing, math and early robotics lessons to move students forward at their skill level. During whole group time, children engage in storytelling, music, movement and Spanish lessons. Additionally, children work with their peers and teachers in project-based activities throughout the school year. Through this approach, not only do our transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students develop their literacy, oral language, writing, mathematical and social skills, but are engaged and motivated learners that learn to ask questions and seek answers. Our transitional kindergarten students are more than prepared to enter kindergarten by the end of the school year. To read more about our philosophy, please click here.
Our transitional k/kindergarten class meets from Monday through Friday (5 days). Students can either attend half-days (8:55 -12:15 pm) or for the school day (8:55 am to 2:55 pm). We all offer after care until 5:00 pm. Whether they come for the half day or school day, all students must attend 5 days a week. This class has a 10:1 student to teacher ratio (i.e., 20 students, 2 teachers).
Children need to be potty trained and 5 years old by November 30th to enroll in our transitional-k/kindergarten classes.
